Description

Join our dedicated team in the Parish of St Helier as a Skilled Gardener.
You will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing our parks, gardens, and open spaces to create a beautiful, safe, and enjoyable environment for the community and visitors alike. This is an opportunity to work in a dynamic setting, contributing to seasonal displays, floral arrangements, and green space conservation.

Key Responsibilities

Work in the greenhouse, including plant propagation, seed sowing, and maintaining floral displays.
Design, plant, and maintain flower borders, hanging baskets, and carpet bedding.
Carry out lawn care, including mowing, fertilising, strimming, and weed control.
Maintain shrubs, hedges, and trees through planting, pruning, and disease control.
Install and maintain watering and irrigation systems.
Apply horticultural chemicals safely, including fertilisers, pesticides, and herbicides.
Operate and maintain gardening tools and equipment, such as mowers and hedge cutters.
Drive various vehicles (lorry, van, water tanker) to support horticultural operations.
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations and best practices.
Train and supervise apprentices and junior team members as required.
Carry out seasonal duties, such as snow clearance, storm damage recovery, and public event support.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Proven experience in gardening, landscaping, or park maintenance.
Strong knowledge of plant care, seasonal planting, and pest control techniques.
Familiarity with Health & Safety procedures and use of protective equipment.
Knapsack sprayer certification for handling chemicals safely.
A valid driving licence (preferably medium goods) is essential.
Experience with specialist vehicles and equipment (e.g., forklifts, chainsaws) is advantageous.
Ability to work in varied weather conditions and undertake physically demanding tasks.
